Peeler appoints Aiken Senator to SC Nuclear Advisory Council

Senator Greg Ryberg will serve as Lt. Governor’s representative

Columbia--Lieutenant Governor Bob Peeler today appointed State Senator Greg Ryberg to the South Carolina Governor’s Nuclear Advisory Council (SCNAC).

The SCGNAC was established to provide advice and recommendations to the Governor on issues involving nuclear materials and the various programs of the federal government applicable to nuclear waste management.

Lieutenant Governor Bob Peeler said, “Nuclear power is a fundamental part of our state’s energy resources and an integral part of our state’s economic stability.  Senator Ryberg is a clear choice for this critical committee because of his experience and working knowledge of energy and nuclear waste issues.  He will be instrumental in representing the interests of all South Carolinians.”

Senator Ryberg said, “I am excited that I will have the opportunity in a public forum to represent the concerns many South Carolinians have with the federal government’s continued proper handling of nuclear waste within our state.  In a year when energy issues are front page news, I look forward to the first meeting later this month.”
