Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards spoke to an overflowing classroom of law students and others today
at the University of South Carolina.
The North Carolina senator's brief visit to Columbia is part of
a short campaign tour in South Carolina. Edwards spoke on a wide range of issues, from health care to education.
He called on President Bush to protect American textile jobs
from unfair competition from China. Edwards sent a letter to Bush today urging safeguards to prevent imports from China from disrupting the U.S textile and apparel market.
First-year law student Tommy Hite the third said he hadn't
planned to support Edwards before the speech. But after hearing him talk, the 22-year-old from Abbeville was ready to volunteer for his campaign.
Edwards was scheduled to meet with Greenville residents in a
similar town hall meeting tonight.
