It was amazing to me that given all of the electronic devices that most of us possess and all of the communication facilities that are available important data for individuals was severely lacking. I received more information regarding from friends that stayed in their homes than I did from my community reps, town governments, county sheriff's office, and your office. What information was available was conflicting. As an example I received your notice of the lifting of the evacuation order on Sunday evening so I started packing up (was in North Carolina at the time) and getting ready to leave early the next morning. I quickly read the Island Packet and on the front page it said "Just because the evacuation order was lifted doesn't mean you can go back to your house." What????? It further stated that when entering the county we would be directed to shelters either in Beaufort or Bluffton?? Friends said that they were freely going into and out of our community with zero problems so why the confusion? We were told that we would all kinds of ID to re-enter our communities including voter registration cards. Turns out the guard at the entrance to my community waved me on without requesting ANY ID at all. My neighbor did everything you requested and tried to return only to be stopped one mile from her community and was told that if she crossed the line she would be "arrested". She said she had to wait in her auto for 8 hours without any food, water, or bathroom facilities. This is insane. Two other friends went to Virginia to wait out the storm. Upon returning down I-95 they were stopped at Lumberton, NC and redirected to country roads which turned out to be bogus means of getting home. One trooper instructed one of my friends to head "East of I-95)?? East. That's where all the flooding. Both of these friends spent 8 hours on the road and finally ended up in Durham, NC where they ended up staying a couple of days. Was there no coordination of data between SC, NC, and GA? A simple road closure web site would have prevented these two families and all those following them to make proper decisions had they known anything. Again data was lacking. There are many other stories and from those who have left they ALL vowed to "not evacuate" in any future storms. Even the collection of debris from cut trees, limbs, etc. was confusing. First we were told that our community would pick up this at curb side. Then we were told no it won't so many hired private companies at several hundreds of dollars to pick up their cut trees, limbs, etc. Now we hear that the county is going to collect all of the debris? Need I say any more?
