A new report says too many babies are being born too soon and too small in South Carolina.
South Carolina Kids Count says fewer teenage mothers are having babies and more mothers are getting prenatal care.
Kids Count tracks eight indicators of a baby's health and well-being.
The report says the number of teens giving birth declined by 15 percent from 1990 until 2001, the most recent year statistics are available.
But the number of babies being born to single parents is on the rise, as are the number of babies who are born prematurely and those born with low birthweight.
