They are totally unfair and ruin the lives of everyone involved. My story is as follows: I am a 53 year old hourly paid worker who earns $24.50 per hour x 40 hour work week. My gross pay per week $980.00 pay. NET pay / the Actual dollars I have to spend is $689. dollars x 4.3 weeks equals $2,962 per month. The punishment I received in Divorce is $1,000. Dollars per month for life. That is 1/3 of my income for life. Alimony for all it's good intentions have been completely misused my Judges. Everyone placed on Permanent Alimony goes Bankrupt, and ends up losing everything. Permanent Alimony, which is 1/3 of my income, is not a sustainable Equation. The Alimony Calculator is based on Gross Income not Net Income. In my case, I have to earn $1,300. Dollars per month to pay my ex-wife $1,000. Dollars per month. Over a years' time, Alimony cost me $15,600. Dollars per year in actual cost to give my ex-wife $12,000. Dollars. Long Term Alimony is not a Survivable figure for an Hourly Employee. Person Property Tax/Alimony Devastation is another perfect example of how Alimony does more harm than good. My Dad passed in the middle of my Divorce leaving me some property. All the value of the property were added up and the dollar amount was added to my worth in the Divorce. Taxes were not considered. So here is what happened. I am trying to survive, raise my family, pay our house ole bills on $100. To $200 Dollars per week in net income and receive a tax bill for $5,000. Dollars. Again not a Survivable situation, I am slowly drowning in dept. The City and County was forced to take all of what MY Dad left me for delinquent tax. I am five years in on this Permanent Alimony. I have been stripped of everything I worked so hard for my entire life. The worst is yet to come. Presently, I am working with a broken right hand and an Abdominal Hernia. I can't save enough to pay my insurance deductible get the attention medically I require. So what happens when i can't meet my $1,000.dollars per month in Permanent Alimony payments? I will end up in jail, everything else fails and everyone involved ends up homeless. Please, please change the Laws or at the very least, take away a Judges ability to give anyone a life sentence, simple because a marriage didn't work out. As I struggle along in this Permanent Financial Enslavement, it seems that Death will be the only way that i will be free of having to deal with ex-wife. Truly I feel that I am being punished for life simple because my gender is Male and I hold a job. I am George Houghton of 107 Webly Street North Augusta, South Carolina 29841. My cell # is (803)221-1675. This letter is simply a Scratch on the surface of what I have had to endure for the last five years. My marriage was 12 years. When I left, by that time, the South Carolina law 2 years separation was done. So I was married actually for14 years. Honestly, I don't feel I deserve a life time Punishment of Permanente Alimony. Laws are supposed to be Fair to all, regardless of their Gender. Thank You For Time, Mr. George Houghton
