Governor, I am not a resident of South Carolina but feel compelled to write you. I am a white American. That your state leaves the confederate flag - a symbol of bigotry, hate and subjugation - flying high while our American flag flies at half staff, is disgusting. Your state needs to reassess. What are your real values here? The American flag stands for freedom and respect for all our differences. Are we perfect? No. Do we often get it wrong? Yes. But we should try to live up to the principles this country is based on. It's wonderful that our country welcomes those of different races and faiths. We're a great country! You cannot stand for freedom AND hate! These are mutually exclusive things. The message you're sending to this country and the world is at the very least....disturbing. Please stop!
