- House Speaker Bobby Harrell's younger brother is
opening a lobbying office in Columbia.
The announcement Wednesday from Southern Strategy
Group underscores the relationship with the Republican
speaker. The announcement says John Harrell is the
brother of newly elected House Speaker Bobby Harrell.
Bobby Harrell took over as speaker in June after
David Wilkins resigned to become the US ambassador to
Canada.
John Crangle with the South Carolina chapter of
Common Cause says the announcement is an attempt to make
potential clients think they will get advantages
unavailable from other lobbyists.
Harrell says his brother has had a lobbyist and
public relations business in Charleston since 2001.
Bobby Harrell says his brother has not lobbied the
Legislature previously.
