As an active voter and resident of the State of South Carolina, I was shocked by the current probate ruling in Charleston to allow a lesbian couple to marry in our state. The issue of same-sex marriage was solved when the residents of SC voted to ammend our state constitution to clearly define the definition of marriage. The federal government is bound by the power of the US constitution, and it clearly defines the rights of the states. We are states, united together for a common purpose. However, we are not pawns of a federal superpower. We the People have spoken. We the People have voted. We the People will no longer remain silent. George Washington said it best "Democratical States must always feel before they can see: it is this that makes their Governments slow, but the people will be right at last." George Washington: letter to Marquis de Lafayette, July 25, 1785. Let us stand together as a state, and continue to remain focused on the goal of our country set by President Lincoln  "That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." I beg of you Governor Hailey, please do everything you can to uphold our rulings, uphold our rights, and uphold the will of your people. I support you 100 percent and may God bless you, our State, and our Nation.
