Orangeburg scam targets senior citizens

Orangeburg police are looking several men responsible for swindling senior citizens.

Since November, men posing as law enforcement agents have twice asked residents for help in a counterfeit investigation, said police Capt. Mike Adams.

The men in one case posed as State Law Enforcement Division agents, approached a woman at home and asked her to withdraw money from her bank as part of the investigation. The men used a similar story in the other theft.

“This scam has been used all over the country,” Adams said.

Several thousand dollars were taken, he said.

Anyone with information can call the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety at (803) 531-4654.— J.R. Gonzales
