COLUMBIA, S.C. - The race for U.S. Senate is
starting to get ugly with more than three months before voters head
to the polls in November.
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Inez Tenenbaum said Friday a
pro-Republican group has launched a television ad in markets across
the state attacking her with false claims.
Tenenbaum said the group called Americans for Job Security claims
she supports as much as $2 billion in new taxes.
"On the contrary, Tenenbaum has endorsed tax cuts that put more
money in consumers' hands to stimulate spending and job creation,"
her spokesman Adam Kovacevich said.
Tenenbaum called on her Republican opponent Jim DeMint to ask his
"Washington friends" to take this false ad off the air.
DeMint's campaign manager Terry Sullivan said he also disapproved
of the attack ad.
"I don't know who the group is. I don't know anything about it"
he said. "I'd rather talk about Jim DeMint. We're winning talking
about Jim DeMint's message."
The Virginia-based political action group isn't required to
reveal donors and has ties to insurance and health care
industries. |
