Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer has been stopped twice for speeding, once in
Laurens County, and once in Chester County where troopers say he was going 101
miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone, but he never got a
ticket.
After the news came out people were
calling morning radio shows like WSSL's "Ellis and Bradley" and
complaining.
As the fallout continues over the lieutenant
governor's recent traffic stops we're learning more about what
happened.
First we told you on Tuesday that Columbia's State
Newspaper asked Bauer point blank last week whether he was stopped doing 101
miles per hour in Chester County.
Bauer denied the stop
happened, now Bauer is telling the state he denied it because it had happened a
month ago and he forgot about it. Also on video tape released by public
safety Bauer is heard trying to communicate with troopers using a police radio
in his state issued car.
Bauer identifies
himself as SC-2, representing his rank among state constitutional
officers. Public Safety Director James Schweitzer says there is no
official designation for the Lt. Governor as SC-2. He also says Bauer's
police radio is intended for emergency use only.
Bauer says he will
now trim his schedule to avoid such incidents in the future mind you the Chester
County stop happened after midnight. Bauer says he was returning to
Columbia after a charity event.
As far as any
disciplinary action against the troopers involved public safety says that is a
personnel issue that will not be released.
Andre Bauer
was on the move again on Wednesday, only this time it was on foot.
Besides the one-mile walk to work, Bauer was also walking to state Republican
Party headquarters in Lexington to file for re-election
