(Columbia-AP) July 1, 2005 - An organizer of the march against the confederate flag that brought 46,000 people to the Statehouse says her group should have fought harder to remove the flag completely from the capitol grounds.

Julia Sibley Jones with the South Carolina Christian Action Council says the march helped force the removal of the flag from the Statehouse dome, but Jones says the group was not as united on where the flag should be placed.

The flag was removed five years ago Friday from the top of the Statehouse. A similar flag was raised by a Confederate monument in front of the Statehouse.

Former Governor Jim Hodges says it was unrealistic to expect the flag to be removed completely from the Statehouse grounds. Hodges helped develop the compromise to remove it from the dome.
