About 20 Charleston Air Force Base reservists
will report for active duty Monday.
The members of the 315th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron will join the
more than 35 airmen activated in April.
The mission is to provide care and transportation to sick and injured
service members involved in the war on terrorism. The squad members being
called for duty include flight crews and support workers.
Some of the airmen will be based out of Germany, where crews involving
doctors, nurses and medical technicians will transport the injured out of
conflict zones as well as back to the United States. Gov. Mark Sanford was
a member of the unit.
In March, Sanford transferred to the Air Force's National Security
Emergency Preparedness Agency, which helps coordinate between the military
and state agencies in times of natural disaster or homeland emergencies.
