It has come to my attention that
there may be some “confusement” about my comments at last week warden’s meeting.
In attempting to convey my
commitment to fulfill my duties to the state and this agency, I used an
ill-advised example: “Even on the last day of my tenure, if my duties required
me to terminate a warden or division director (one of you), I would do so,” or
words to that effect.
By using this example, I simply
selected the task that I would find most unpleasant and the duty that I would
most like to neglect. Frankly, this should have been evident, since in almost
seven years I have seldom had to take any corrective action against wardens or
division directors. My larger point was that I feel strongly about not becoming
a ‘short-timer’ over the next 16 months. I think that such an approach to any
job is wrong and that people should be aware (or warned)
accordingly.
I suspect that most of you
understood my point and the hyperbole’ that I used.
However, for anyone who is now
expecting a rash of casualties in your ranks, this should clear things up.
