Being that this is the pilot project for what will be an annual appointment, the selection of this group of artists was contingent on residency in Charleston, Berkley, and Dorchester counties, although only for this first edition. As the original exhibition of what will be an ongoing series, a first appearance of local women artists stands to honor as well as validate local customs and conventions, interconnecting the artists' professional interpretations of the theme through morphological symbols common to the area; something like a visual language that can facilitate an interrelation with the local audience. The next issue will adopt a regional approach that embraces woman artists from the Southeastern United States. The artists will present a finished work through their receptiveness and experiences, motivated by the theme of women and our society. This exhibition will be supported by dexterous historical data integrated with a comprehensive presentation inspired by a feminine point of view. There will be guest speakers from the Charleston area and from different places of the South East. The purpose is to shed light on some of the aspects and entities of a feminist movement of the past, concerning the present, in conjunction with this March appointment already popular in Europe and celebrated around the world for almost a hundred years now. Robert B. Reed curates the exhibition. The following list are the participating artists, all coming from completely different backgrounds: Francina Smalls-Joyner Heart Bernardos Kim Hambric Mercedes Da Silva Mila Garro Nancy Romness Pam Miller-Schussel Pierina Deiana The exhibition will open on Saturday, March 7 at 5:30PM and will go through to March 22. The venue, the Community Center of Saint Matthews. The Center also provides access for the disabled, an opportune measure for the event. Hours: Monday thru Thursday, 10Am-2PM, Saturday and Sunday 1-5PM. Friday the exhibit is closed. The artists will be available at the opening and on the weekends. We would be honored to have you at the opening of this exhibit and thrilled if you were to say a word or two. We think this occasion and the theme will gain momentum in the State of South Carolina, as well as on a regional level and the appearance of a successful woman like you, would not only embellish the event, but be an inspiration for younger people. More so, we feel it is the occasion for the State of South Carolina to bring to light its resourceful and audacious characteristics by supporting what can very well become a reference point to broaden and develop. I will send a proper invitation to you later this month. Robert B. Reed cell. (843) 901 0694 rblainereed@gmail.com
