Haley, I am a resident of Pennsylvania. My husband and I, with traveling friends, enjoy extended road trips to see our country. I feel that the issue concerning your State House former flag is an item about which I have a right to comment. The "Confederate" flag was never South Carolina's flag - until it was raised as an emblem of hatred during the Civil Rights era. It stands for nothing but hatred and refusal to acknowledge all people as equals. After the war, Robert E. Lee even said it should be furled and put in the attic. He equated choosing it over the Stars and Stripes to be treason. So now it is being called a relic and a 3.6 million dollar addition to your state museum is being bandied about to appease a certain segment of South Carolinians. The word relic implies sacred. Now we are not only looking at treason but sacrilege. Please know that if this museum for entrenched racism becomes reality, we will most certainly not EVER be interested in paying admission to your state museum. We will avoid spending any of our tourist dollars in your state. Most sincerely, Anne Freas
