Former probation officer charged with placing bets

Associated Press

State agents have arrested a former state Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services employee and charged him with misconduct in office on Monday.

Charles D. Prosser, 42, of Lake City is accused of placing bets with a probation client at his office in Clarendon County, according to arrest warrants issued by the State Law Enforcement Division.

Prosser resigned from the department April 2, agency spokesman Pete O'Boyle said.

The arrest is the result of an investigation by SLED.
