Governor Hodges Announces Appointment of Greenville County Sheriff

Columbia, S.C. - Governor Jim Hodges today announced his appointment of Stephen Dale Loftis as sheriff of Greenville County.

“I find myself in the unfortunate position of finding a new leader for the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office following the tragic death of Sam Simmons last week,” Governor Hodges said. “After reviewing some exceptional candidates for the position, I am appointing Steve Loftis as sheriff of Greenville County. His almost 30 years of experience in law enforcement and his contributions to his community make him an excellent choice to lead Greenville’s sheriff’s office. I believe he will continue the programs and tradition of professionalism established by Sheriff Simmons.“

Loftis and his wife, Cathy, traveled on Friday to meet with Governor Hodges at the State House. The Governor officially swore Loftis into office during the meeting.
