First Steps was wasteful in spending and pretty much duplication of services. My concern now is that the leadership at the top, C.Musik and C.Duke do not have the best interests of BabyNet supervisors and staff at heart. Their leadership has been sub-par from the start and failed to treat supervisors fairly. Hiring friends, providing stellar resources for the Columbia office but underfunding other areas. On idea they proposed was to base salaries on staff numbers and not experience. They have also made it difficult for supervisors to discipline and remove ineffective staff. Even in HR, Samantha Ingram is poorly trained. It didn't help that the former First Steps director is her aunt. Even in the Columbia office the supervisor (sorely unqualified) and C.Duke are best friends and she receives all the staff and resource or she needs, even pulling staff from Orangeburg to do the work. What's worse is how they wanted to push policies and behaviors to circumvent parents rights. What I am basically saying is that First Steps should be completely dismantled due to ineffectiveness and C.Musik and C.Duke should have no part in BabyNet. They're running it in the ground with poor management. Even senseless time studies to make it look like they're doing their job. They've spent funds on staff in Columbia where other areas are swamped. Even FTE positions were taken from some areas to make positions for others. This is deplorable. I say this as a concerned husband whose wife has be dealing with the ups and downs of BabyNet for the past 15 years without a significant raise and supervising in an office that is not even located in the area where the majority of the clients reside. Their incompetence adds stress to our household and other BabyNet employees. It has to end. Please consider this when DHHS meets with First Steps leadership during this transition. It will be easy to identify my wife based on this email and I'd like for the both of us to remain completely anonymous to avoid retaliation. Thank you for sticking to your beliefs and making a bold move. This could be discussed further if necessary. We can be reached at 8033719698. Feel free to leave a message if we miss the call.
