I have been designated to serve as a Consulting Party on behalf of The Naval Order of the United States before the Army Corps of Engineers as they consider the request by Palmetto Railway to construct a track that will bisect the Charleston Naval Hospital Historic District.  During WWII, Charleston served as homeport to 17 Army Hospital ships and was the primary debarkation point for wounded evacuated from Europe and Africa.  

As a maritime organization NOUS does not oppose the expansion of our critical port.  I would, however, appreciate the opportunity to meet with the Governor to express the importance of preserving this site where thousands of the Greatest Generation were cared for.  Thank you.
