Natural Resources looking for
leader
Associated Press
COLUMBIA --
The Natural Resources Board chosen by Gov. Jim Hodges is interviewing candidates
for the agency director who will serve under Gov. Mark Sanford.
The
seven-member board plans to interview seven candidates today to replace Paul
Sandifer, whose resignation takes effect April 1.
Sandifer said he is taking
a position with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The
board is not trying to rush a selection before its members are replaced,
Chairman Joab Lesesne said. But the agency needs a leader, he said.
"We've
got to do something because Paul's gone on April 1," Lesesne said.
The
governor's office has no problem with the current board selecting a director,
said Sanford spokesman Chris Drummond.
There has not been an immediate need
to replace board members in many agencies, Drummond said.
Lesesne said the
board wants to select someone Sanford approves.
Lesesne said he doesn't think
the board has major philosophical differences with Sanford on natural resources
issues.
