Gov. Sanford to serve as Darlington's grand marshal

The Associated Press
Being governor has its perks and South Carolina's Mark Sanford will enjoy one of them next month at Darlington Raceway.

Sanford will be the grand marshal of NASCAR's Carolina Dodge Dealers 400. He will say the traditional words, "Gentleman, start your engines," to kick off the Winston Cup event.

Sanford was sworn in as South Carolina's governor last month.

The race will mark the 100th time the Winston Cup series has run at Darlington.
