The annual River Sweep along the Chattooga and Chauga rivers in Oconee County is organized by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and has been held for the past 12 consecutive years. Volunteers worked from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 30 cleaning the Chattooga and Chauga rivers. Trash was collected from many areas along the rivers including Cassidy Bridge, Land’s Bridge, Blackwell’s Bridge, Vernor Mill Bridge, Hells Hold and Grapevine.
