On that day in 1923, the Turkish Grand National Assembly, under the guidance of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, proclaimed the Republic that fulfilled the aspirations of Turkish people for liberty, justice, and peace. Realizing Atatürk's vision of a modern statehood, Turkey had transformed from its imperial past into a sustainable secular democracy and an emerging market. Over the past century of immigration, Turkish Americans have also significantly contributed to the economic, scientific and technological progress, and to the diverse cultural fabric of America. I am, along with other Turkish-American residents of South Carolina, requesting that October 29th be recognized as the Turkish Republic Day. Sincerely, Dr. Ali Demirdas
