Haley, I am writing you to voice my disappointment in the news that you oppose the US accepting Syrian refugees. I'm sure you have the safety of your citizens and fellow Americans in mind, but I feel it is our duty - as Americans, human being and good people - to help others in need; and not only when it is convenient, won't cost us anything or take any sacrifice. Part of fighting terrorism is not giving into fear or claiming each man for himself; by doing so, we are at best cowed by the terrorists and at worst, closing our hearts and doors to people we have the power to save. Indifference is just as lethal as bombs or guns and all the more disgraceful when yielded by a nation that has the power and means to do good. The ties that bind us to each other are stronger, deeper and more profound than something as insignificant as race, religion or country, and ignoring these ties is an insult to God and our shared humanity. I ask you to please reconsider your decision; if you won't, find another way to help and urge fellow Americans to do the same. Thank you for your time, Jean Lewis
