Good Morning,

We are almost half-way through the budget process and we are still hopeful. In fact, some incentive pay for security staff at Level II and III institutions is currently funded in the House budget. This is vulnerable, however, since original forecasts and plans did not call for this to be included until next year’s request. The current version of the budget also provides a 3% across the board for state employees and holds the line on health care premiums.

It also allows us to open another special management unit at Turbeville and provides a small amount of maintenance money.

Sam Walton’s Rules for Building a Business, Rule 4:  Communicate everything that you possibly can to your team. The more they know, the more they will understand. The more they understand, the more they will care.

We can all easily recognize the difference between those who care and those who do not care. According to Sam, increasing information flow increases the percentage of those who care.

These regular updates are, in part, my effort to improve communication with our leadership. My efforts at more regular communication will be meaningless unless you ensure that the flow of information continues at all levels of this great agency. Do so by every possible means available. Be creative.
