Bill Would Give S.C. Another Federal Judge
South Carolina could get another federal judge
under a bill approved by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

South Carolina ranks 18th among the 94 district court systems in the nation in terms of caseload.

The state has the highest caseload in the Fourth Circuit, which includes South Carolina, North
Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and West Virginia.

Each South Carolina federal district judge had an average of 499 cases pending last year. The national average was 471 pending cases.

Chief U.S. District Judge Joe Anderson says he would like to have another pair of hands.

South Carolina has eleven federal judges. South Carolina Circuit Judge Henry Floyd has been nominated for the seat vacated by U.S. District Judge Dennis Shedd. He's been promoted to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia.
