Columbia (AP) - The House has approved Governor Mark Sanford (website - news) 's proposal to lower the state's income tax.

The bill faces a routine third reading Thursday before heading to the Senate.

The bill would lower the income tax from seven percent to four-point-seven-five percent over the next decade as long as South Carolina's economy continues to grow.

Supporters say reducing taxes will help create jobs and raise the standard of living.Opponents say they fear the reduction in revenue will hurt funding for things like education, health care and public safety.

Why do lawmakers always say we will loose money in Education if taxes are lowered.  I thought that the Lottery was supposed to help support Education.  They certainly generate enough money, where is it all going?  More money from the lottery need to be put into elementary and middle schools.  These children have to get to Hight School before they can think of College.
