Good Morning,

I just wanted to issue a Christmas reminder and to say thank you for the great job that you are doing for our state.

This job never leaves us completely alone; we all know that. It is no respecter of holidays or days off. Do what you must to keep your people on their toes. We owe that to our SCDC teammates.

I know that we are disrupting schedules. In some respects, those disruptions are meant as much for us as they are for inmates. Seems like almost every year, someone cuts a corner and allows an inmate or group of inmates to ruin Christmas for a lot of folks. Don’t let that happen in your prison or division this year.

I trust that you have already, or will soon, communicate with your staff regarding the need to be extra diligent during the Christmas season. If every division director, warden, associate and major will do so, everyone in SCDC (and our sister LE agencies) will have a greater likelihood of having a quiet and uninterrupted Christmas and New Years.

Taking the lead and demanding diligence on this front is not Scrooge-like. Instead, it is a tangible demonstration of your Christmas spirit; it demonstrates concern for the holidays of co-workers and inmates. A quiet and safe Christmas at work is the best way to ensure a Merry Christmas season for everyone on the SCDC team.

Luanne and I wish each of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are honored to be a part of this team.
