Shaw 188 Isgett Circle Cheraw SC 29520 marieshaw@roadrunner.com 843-253-4540 Dear Governor Haley, When Hurricane Matthew came through SC my house, my shop, and my wife's storage building flooded. We have a ditch on the right side of our house and at the back of our house. I know that this was unusual circumstances, however, we never use to get flooded out like this until Hwy 9 was made a 4-lane and we get water down that little ditch beside our house from the highway. There is a technical college on the other side of Hwy 9 and we get water from there also. About 4 years ago, we paid around $6,000 to have the ditch dug deeper and wider and moved over from our house about 20 feet, but still our yard floods sometimes with heavy rains. We were just wanting to find out if there is any help available for us. We are in our 60's and have been working really hard to salvage what we can. Our insurance man said they couldn't do anything to help because we don't have flood insurance. We thought they would help from a hurricane, but he said no. Please let us know if there is any assistance we could get with this problem. We also had 2 freezer's in my wife's shop and lost some food due to power outage. The back room and washroom will have to have new floors put in. The carpet in the living room needs replacing also. I know that there were other people with a lot more damage and I feel badly for them and feel like I shouldn't be asking for help. We wouldn't ask if we weren't up in age, but we are not financially able to do much ourselves right now. I know you are very busy, but please reply to me when you can. Have a great day!
