From day 1 she has had an IEP. I am being told she needs to stay back now in first grade. My Maria, along with my son Robert, and I imagine a lot of other children/parents going through the same thing. I was told there is a summer program, but my little one's don't qualify. Well you tell me what qualifies a child??? Don't you think any children that are below, in math, writing, reading??? SHOULDN'T that alone qualify a child to be involved in a summer program to help with the basics?? I have notice the school system, pampers the gifted children, well it's the children that are not gifted, the state should be thinking about. So they don't end up in jail, dealing drugs etc. I can guarantee, I am not the only parent feeling this way!!!! I have also seen where a child that had an IEP, then the school retested the child and stated, the child didn't need the IEP anymore. Then that child struggles for TWO years, while the parent has to fight with the school to get him tested again. At which time school system states child is scoring average, in math, a little below in reading etc. Again, the parent has to fight, with the system. Let me put it this way, when you have a ten year old, who is able to pick up that her sibling is not able to do basic math, how can you say he is average????? Well they did further testing, and come to find he does need an IEP after all!!!! This is the child who was passed on to second grade, but was barely reading 1st grade level, and didn't even master basic math. Please I beg you, to look more closely, at our children, the one's that are developmentally delayed, has IEP, etc. THEY are also our future and we need to do everything we can so they can succeed in life too. We shouldn't have to pay for private schooling for them. Because I can tell right now there are a lot of us parents, who can't afford to do that!!! I appreciate you time & please look into this. Our children's future are in your hands not just the parents hands. Sincerely, Lorna M. Bissonnette
