BY THE NUMBERS

How would tuition tax credits affect public schools? Supporters and opponents differ.

+$600 per student

• Supporters say schools would see a net gain of $600 for every student who left for another school

— $2,040 per student

• Opponents say schools would lose between $570 and $2,040 in funding for every student who leaves.

— $234 million

• Opponents also point to a state Board of Economic Advisors opinion that says the state budget would lose $234 million in revenues when the bill is fully enacted as parents take credits to lower the income tax they owe the state.
