<WFUD_Request>My name is Sara Adams and I was employed by SCDC  at McDougall correctional institution as a correctional officer. I graduated 2nd in my class and was chosen as officer of the quarter and then officer of the year for my institution.  My evaluations were all exemplary and my career was everything to me. On January 18,2008 I was assaulted by an inmate who should not have even been at McDougall as it is medium security institution seeing as he was incarcerated for sexually assaulting a 13yr old child. My career was ended that night. Due to physical and emotional injuries I was unable to return to work. January 2009 the police officers retirement system retired me officially and my income took a big hit. Workers compensation helped with the change but once the case was settled my income went to about half of what I brought in while working and we've been struggling since. I have applied for Social security and been denied several times I have retained a lawyer but they informed me it will be at least another year before we even get a hearing. I have worked my whole life paying into the system and am now being told I didn't fit in the "covered time frame" this is frustrating to no end. I have worked hard my whole life and am unable to work through no fault of my own yet I'm denied the benefits I have rightfully earned. I would return to work in a heartbeat if possible but unfortunately that choice was taken from me and I feel helpless which is very difficult for me. This is very confusing and frustrating and I would appreciate an assistance your office could provide.
