I am asking this because what is being said in the news is also true here in South Carolina. I'm sure you already know about the 6 or more service members who died last year, but were you aware of the service member who shot himself in the head a couple years ago at the Greenville VA Medical Center. He couldn't get the pain medication he needed. None of this surprises any of us who have to deal with the VA for medical services. Greenville just got a brand new facility last year. 2 months after it opened I had an appointment for Acute Bronchitis. Part of the procedure would be a chest x-ray. However, the new x-ray machines didn't work. I finally got my x-rays done 4 weeks later. I had to call 4 weeks after the x-rays to finally get the results. If I hadn't contacted them, I would have never known the results, as they only call you if they see something wrong. Never a follow up. One other example of the care. I went in August of 2011 with a locked shoulder. After 4 weeks waiting for x-rays, another 4 weeks to finally get the results of the x-rays, they decided to do an MRI. This was done 2 months later in December. At that point the common procedure that is done (as per my conversations with private physicians), the next step is a cortisone injection. I finally got that injection in July 2012. Almost a year later. To top it off, the Doctor at Dorn who gave me the injection, noted in my record, "Patient expects an overnight cure". I guess waiting almost a year for an injection most people in the private sector get within a few weeks, is overnight to the VA. Dorn Medical in Columbia seems to be much better then the satellite facilities such as the one in Greenville. Although I have a few minor horror stories from there as well. Please have the Governor look into the VA system here in South Carolina. Have a representative of the Governors office go to some of these places and talk to the Veterans. Listen to what the Vets have to say, before you talk to the staff. I have a feeling you aren't going to like what's said. Thank you very much for your time, Kevin Langager klangager@charter.net 864-243-0217
