2001 Fifth Grade Writing Award Topics

The composition is to be written on a common theme.  Students should select only one of the three topics.  Please be reminded that while teachers are encouraged to work with students and teach the writing process, their active involvement in the creativity of the essay should be limited.

1.        I woke up this morning and jumped out of bed.  I looked in the mirror and did not see my reflection.  I realized I must be invisible, so...

2.        Participating in community sports activities is/is not important.  Explain at least three reasons why or why not.

3.        Imagine someone from another country visits you.  If you could take this person to one place in South Carolina, where would it be and why?
