Senator plans to discuss gang legislation proposal Wednesday

(Columbia) December 12, 2006 - At a news conference Wednesday Lexington Senator Jake Knotts will talk about the gang legislation he plans to introduce when the legislature reconvenes in January.

WIS has learned the bill will allow government to seize property connected to gang activity. The bill would also do more to protect those who want to leave a gang, but feel threatened.

And the new legislation grants the state grand jury jurisdiction over many gang-related crimes.

The bill will be referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
