Congratulations to developer Don Leonard for scoring a
gubernatorial appointment to head the S.C. Transportation
Infrastructure Bank - the outfit that financed all our new highways
under the the Horry County Road Improvement Development Effort. It's
a relief that our county will continue to have a say in future
road-building projects.
We have issues with the infrastructure bank and the S.C.
Department of Transportation. The local share of the RIDE
improvements is far higher than the local share for highway projects
in Charleston and elsewhere in the state. And local tourism-tax
collections devoted to RIDE costs may fall short of the required
loan payments in the next few years. We need the bank and S.C. DOT
to cut us some slack.
With Leonard as infrastructure bank boss, chances for a fairer
RIDE deal should improve. We look forward to his service especially
for that
reason.
