First of all, are there not funds already incorporated in the budget for road maintenance and repair? Are these funds being used properly? If not, fix that problem FIRST WITHOUT A TAX HIKE! When the changes are made in how that budgeted money is used and a clear accounting of current revenue along with current expenditure, then an accurate assessment of what action should be taken can be made. We citizens have not been made aware of the true state of this supposed "FIX OUR ROADS" problem. If a change is needed in the organization and personnel over the road maintenance & repair, TAKE CARE OF IT and then we can revise the budget if there is a deficiency. Cutting the income tax rate, along with other tax cuts will certainly increase tax revenue and increase business and economic growth. I think the total amount of the tax cut should be done at the onset and not staggered over several years. Use it to quickly and dramatically impact the economic landscape so as to quickly increase tax revenues . This should be done as soon as the internal assessment and reorganizing is accomplished. Any gas tax increase should be postponed until the income and/or other tax cuts have been fully implemented. The increase in revenues should be assessed BEFORE ANY GAS TAX INCREASE IS CONSIDERED! Any increase in taxes during the current economic depression will be devastating to South Carolina as our population and businesses are barely existing on penny-pinching budgets as it is. A HIKE IN THE GAS TAX SHOULD BE THE VERY LAST ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT EVERY CONSIDERATION! History shows us that government has repeatedly proposed and promised short, temporary increases in taxes that ALWAYS becomes permanent. YOU ARE CHARGED TO PREVENT THAT FROM HAPPENING! I hear you often on the Bobby Mack show on the 1063WORD radio station. I would love for you to discuss this road tax situation when you are guest there soon.
