COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Governor Mark Sanford wants to put the state's electronic campaign finance reporting system on the fast track.

State Ethics Commission officials have said that an online reporting system would not be ready for the 2006 elections.

Sanford says the system could be up and running sooner if officials worked with a company already under contract with the state to redesign its Web site.

Sanford wants the state to use its existing contract with South Carolina Interactive, a subsidiary of NIC Incorporated of Olathe, Kansas.

An electronic system would make campaign finance reports available on the Internet, making it easier for people to analyze campaign fund-raising and spending. Lawmakers approved the money for an electronic filing system in May.
