PEELER SLATED FOR FULL WEEK OF FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN

Lieutenant Governor Bob Peeler will spend the week visiting full-day kindergarten classes across the state. During these visits the Lieutenant Governor will meet with teachers, parents, and students to gain first-hand knowledge of South Carolina full-day kindergarten programs.

Peeler will be visiting schools that have offered full-day kindergarten on the local level for years, as well as schools that recently implemented full-day kindergarten under legislation passed by the 1996 South Carolina General Assembly.

Currently, the state of South Carolina provides optional full-day kindergarten for at-risk children only. Next year the legislature will consider proposals to expand optional full-day kindergarten for all children. Peeler, a supporter of last year's full-day kindergarten proposal, plans to put the insight he gains from visits to South Carolina classrooms to work when the legislature revisits the issue of full-day kindergarten next session.
