Certified Prescribed Fire Manager Training

COLUMBIA---The SC Forestry Commissioner is offering training for anyone who supervised outdoor burning for forestry, wildlife, or agricultural purposed. Completion of the training is one requirement for certification as a SC Certified Prescribed Fire Manager (SC Codes of Laws, Title 48, Chapter 34: SC Prescribed Fire Act).

The course is designed for people who already have basic knowledge and experience in prescribed burning. Topics include fire weather, fire behavior, laws and liabilities, and the SC Smoke Management Guidelines. A written test will be administered.

So that participants will have time to make arrangements, the course will be offered on September 24, 2002, in Moncks Corner and on November 7, 2002, and January 25, 2003 in Columbia. All sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. The fee for the course is $15 to cover the cost of materials. Deadline to register is three weeks prior to each course date. Classes will be filled on a first-come, first served basis.
