Money to Allow DJJ Progam to Expand
(Columbia-AP) -- The South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus and the Department of Juvenile Justice have been working on a youth intervention program that already has created three after school centers.

On Wednesday, the Black Caucus gave a $10,000 check to the agency to expand the program.

Juvenile Justice Director Bill Byars says about ten centers will be added this year. Centers already operate in Bishopville, Hartsville and Greenville.

Churches and community organizations run the centers with tips from Juvenile Justice and support from volunteers and colleges around the state.

Governor Mark Sanford says the effort is an example of the value of partnerships.
