Dear Governor Haley,

First, I want to thank you for your service to all of us here in South Carolina, especially in such trying times as these in the aftermath of our devastating floods.

Second, I'd like to invite you to consider establishing a new statewide system of trails for communities and between communities that can serve as a strong incentive for all of our citizens for improved health and personal fitness, help conserve and preserve greenways throughout our beautiful state, and serve as non-motorized transportation routes. 

The benefits of the Swamp Rabbit Trail in Greenville and similar trails around the country are well documented. They not only promote active lifestyles and enhance personal fitness but improve people's quality of life, enhance community spirit, conserve natural resources, and stimulate economic development. 

I serve on the Board of the Laurens County Trails Association, which among other initiatives is seeking to extend the Swamp Rabbit Trail through Laurens County to connect it with our state's Palmetto Trail, and I would be happy to join you or others in thinking about such an initiative and working toward such an end.
