That practice is hospitals employing doctors who work emergency rooms and in other areas of the hospital who do not accept insurance from insurance companies which the hospital does have agreements with. I had a heart attack in Dec. of 2015. I had Consumers Choice insurance which is accepted at Grand Strand Hospital. The problem is the emergency room doctor does NOT accept that insurance. Consumers paid him the rate they would pay an in network doctor but I am now saddled with a bill of over $1000 for my ER visit The insurance company paid him $196.52 ). I had the same problem with Waccamaw hospital from a visit in April of 2015. This practice is extremely deceitful and preys on the unfortunate. Surely something can be done to require ANY DOCTOR working at a hospital to accept all insurance carriers the hospital he works for. As it is now there is no accountability and no informing patients that while your stay in the building is covered the services of the physicians is not. I am not the only one who is facing large medical bills even WITH INSURANCE COVERAGE.
