It’s a list 5700
people long. The Department of Social Services says they are people they can’t
find. For every name there’s an unclaimed child support check waiting to be
cashed. So we decided to search for ourselves. With a phone book and an online
directory we started calling. There were wrong numbers, answering machines and
disconnected lines.
But after just 15
minutes we found Gaffney resident Kimberly Austin. But here’s the odd part. She still lives at the same address on
file with DSS. She had no idea she had money waiting for her. Then we hit the
streets and tracked down Teresa Allgood. She’s another person DSS couldn’t find.
