This past summer I was hired as a marching band tech for the high school drumline by Mr. David Richards. After discussing over the phone what days I would be available to help teach, and agreeing on a payment of $400, I began teaching at the beginning of the on season every Thursday for all of rehearsal from 3:30pm-6:30pm, for the entire season. I am a freshman at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, and changed classes in my schedule in order to be able to make the hour long commute to Clinton to help teach each week from August through the end of October. I absolutely loved teaching at Clinton High School. The kids were energetic and always willing to learn. I was extremely surprised by their attentiveness to everything I had to say, even when they had only known me for a few months. I could not have found a better atmosphere to start my first year of helping teach marching bands. Unfortunately, I have not yet been paid for my work. After sending multiple texts and an email with a basic invoice asking if there was anything else I could do in order to receive a payment, I finally got a response telling me that the only thing needed was the money to pay me. Around two months later, I went to visit the bookkeeper and explained the situation to her as best as I could. I even brought my mom along with me to help sort out the issue. The bookkeeper assured me she would talk to Mr. Richards and contact me by the end of the day. I was never contacted. Around the end of December, I texted Mr. Richards asking if there was any way I could get paid by the end of the year. Being a freshman in college, I have definitely needed to money I was expecting to have for the last few months of the semester and Christmas. I got a reply saying that a request was submitted to the school and it would probably be January before I was paid. Later, I received an email saying the invoice I had sent in a previous email was corrupted and needed to send another, so I proceeded to do so. I have tried to understand the situation and to be as cooperative and patient as possible. Months later, I'm finding it hard to be as patient, as I am beginning to see this less as looking for money and more as withholding payment. Please let me know the protocol in order to receive my payment. Thank you for your time and attention to this letter.
