COLUMBIA, S.C. - The state Transportation
Department will receive $9.18 million in federal funds to purchase
vehicles for 15 local transportation authorities.
With the funds, the agency will buy 11 35-foot buses, 11 40-foot
buses, 105 17-passenger Cutaways, 22 15-passenger
handicapped-equipped vans, and two trolleys.
"These new vehicles will help enable local transportation
authorities deliver better service," said U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham,
R-S.C. "In addition, improvements in transportation encourage future
investment and economic growth."
The funds, which were appropriated in fiscal year 2002, come from
the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit
Administration.
