Savannah River Committee will meet March 30 in Hilton Head

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford's Savannah River Committee will meet with Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue's Savannah River Committee on Friday, March 30 at 9:00 a.m. at the Hilton Head Public Service District Community Room to continue their discussion of issues arising in the Savannah Basin. The Georgia/South Carolina Committees last met jointly in September of 2006.

The South Carolina Savannah River Committee will meet separately on Thursday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority on 6 Snake Road in Okatie, SC. The meeting is open to the public. Call (803) 734-9100 for more information.

Issues for the Georgia/South Carolina Committees range from saltwater intrusion into a principle public water supply aquifer on the coast of Georgia and South Carolina near the Savannah River, industrial and residential waste water assimilation, a minimum release strategy on the U. S. Army Corps of Engineer- managed lakes in the upper part of the Savannah Basin, and the consideration of lake levels.

This meeting will focus on a report of a Groundwater Subcommittee and a presentation relating to current groundwater conditions on Hilton Head Island.
