North Augusta SC 29841 lrogers803@yahoo.com (803) 292-0964 LETT SC Divorce Laws 73.20.177.164 Six months ago my world turned upside down. I was called home from work by federal agents to learn that my husband of 14.5 years was under investigation for possession and distribution of child pornography. The situation went from bad to worse when further examination of evidence revealed my 3 year old son, the youngest of our four children, was involved in this crime and the charges would be expanded to include production of child pornography. I had to identify a photograph of my son being sexually molested by his father. Now imagine my horror when I learned in South Carolina, NONE of the information I have given above is grounds for a divorce. This cannot be. My family has been devastated by this situation. Instead of closing the door on abuse and lies, I am told to wait through a year of separation so I can have a "no-fault" divorce. What an insult! That is a year that I have to continue to share assets, a year that I have to complete my husband's taxes since he is in prison, and a year I'm legally bound to a man who may as well be a perfect stranger to me. All I really want to do in that year is try to recover, get my children counseling, and move on. But I cannot do so with the divorce law as it is written. I know a change won't happen in time to benefit me or my family, but nobody should have to stay married to someone who is ABUSING THEIR CHILDREN or who is IMPRISONED FOR AN EXTENDED AMOUNT OF TIME. This is not a decision that requires a year of thought. I do not imagine anyone in my situation would need to mull over anything for too long. Please, I IMPLORE you to make a change to the SC divorce law for the safety of our children, and out of respect for the families who are innocent victims. Thank you.
