Reminder: Livestock Compensation Program Signup Deadline December 13, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC---Under the Livestock Compensation Program (LCP), an emergency initiative administered by the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA), eligible livestock owners and cash lessees in South Carolina may receive direct payments for their livestock due to the drought. Signup began October 1, 2002. Deadline for livestock owners to apply is December 13, 2002.

Eligible livestock may include: beef and dairy cattle; buffalo and beefalo, when maintained on the same basis as beef cattle; and sheep and goats.

Payment rates for each type of livestock are determined based on standard feed consumption data for each eligible type of livestock.

Beef Cows $18.00/head
Dairy Cows $31.50/head
Stockers $13.50/head
Beef and Beefalo $18.00/head
Goats $ 4.50/head
Sheep $ 4.50/head
